Devon is a lovely part of the country, and really you're not that far from civilisation :). Totnes is about halfway between two decent-sized cities, about 40 minutes from Plymouth (pop. 260,000) and 50 minutes from Exeter (pop. 125,000), so you can always visit one of them if the small town life is getting a bit much - and they have pretty much everything you might need from a city :).

Plus if you need a bigger city fix, then Bristol (pop. 440,000) is only 2 hours away, Cardiff (pop. 340,000) is 2.5 hours and Birmingham (pop. 1.9 million) is 3.25 hours away :).

I'm from Bristol originally so have a soft spot for the Southwest anyway, but I also lived in Exeter for almost 4 years - 3 years as a student between 2001 and 2005 (I studied abroad in the US in 2003/04), then 6 months for work in 2010/2011, another 3 months for work in summer 2012, and a further 3 months for work from Sept-Dec 2015 :). Since my company HQ is located in Exeter, I may well end up working there again in the future :).

ahh thank you! i will be living out "in the sticks" a bit outside of totnes, about 4 miles from it. it's stunningly beautiful out there. i think we'll do okay with it all...we're both musicians and totnes is close enough to do all kinds of things....it's a happening town for sure.

i appreciate all the info. and also the beautiful beach is close too!
