BRP card replacement
« on: January 08, 2016, 01:17:07 PM »
Yesterday, mid-panic-attack, I posted a very long question explanation of all the ways  the world was going to end because I need to apply for a replacement BRP.  Luckily, it seems I didn't actually click 'Post'.  And I'm much better now. :)

But I do still have a couple of questions, in case anyone knows:

* Is there actually any way to un-cancel my original card?  I reported it as lost, but the police actually found my purse a few days later, so I've got it back.  I'd been advised to replace this one anyway, as it was't scanning properly at the border, but just wondering, for future reference, if there's any actual human being you can contact to have a 'lost' card reinstated?

* What's the current average waiting time on the replacement card applications?  Posts I've found elsewhere suggest around 3 months, in total, but they're all several years old.

Thanks!

Unfortunately once the card is reported lost, it is cancelled and it'll have to be replaced.   :-\\\\

I think new BRP's only take about a month or so these days.  They used to not be held to a processing time for replacement BRP's but now they state two months (they try to have all applications processed within 2 months).

Good news that it was found!  I keep my BRP hidden away in my house out of fear of it being lost.

I was on my way back from holiday in Florida when I lost it.  Otherwise, I wouldn't have been carrying it around.

We spent 2 hours going back and forth between the 3 places we'd stopped, in all of a 5 mile radius.  Couldn't find it anywhere, and was sure it would never be seen again.

It never even occurred to me to file a Lost Property report with the police, until I found that I had to in order to apply for the replacement.  When I did, they recovered it the same afternoon...at the Tesco that we'd stopped at for 5 minutes, and then gone back and searched twice (incl. speaking to the service counter) that morning!

So I guess there's a pro-tip for anyone else who loses one-- file the Lost Property claim, then give it a day or two before you cancel the card, just in case!
