I'm new to the site. I hired a company to do my initial spouse visa because I was so nervous I was going to get it all wrong... now 2 years later I'm debating about doing it again! I wanted to check out this site first, though, to see if there way any way I could navigate the FLR(m) myself. I am having a hard time seeing where to post in the visa section though... I guess I need to search a little more!

Of course you can navigate the application yourself... most people do. It's pretty straightforward - you just fill in the application form and provide all the documents listed on the application form.

You just need to make sure:

1) Your relationship is still subsisting

2) You still meet the financial requirement (you can combine your income with your spouse's to meet it if you need to).

3) You still have somewhere suitable to live

4) You have proof that you have lived together for the last 2 years (by way of 6 official documents in each of your names addressed to you at the same address, spread evenly over the 2 years - this is all described in detail on the FLR(M) form.

The only reason you might need professional help with the application is if you have serious, real reasons why you feel you might be refused, such as previous criminal convictions or illegal immigration history in the UK.

To add to what I said above, I saw your other post and realised that you are on a spousal visa (HM Forces) valid until May 2018, and that you are currently stationed abroad with your spouse.

In short:

- You don't need to apply for FLR(M) for another 2 years because your visa is valid until 2018.

- The earliest you should apply for FLR(M) is 28 days before your current visa expires, so around 5th April 2018.

- You can only apply for FLR(M) from inside the UK

- You should qualify for ILR on 4th March 2019 (and you can apply for it 28 days before this date), so although the FLR(M) should be valid for 30 months, you will only need to wait about 10 months after receiving it before you can apply for ILR.
