Ranch Dressing and Bacon Bits
« on: November 24, 2004, 12:01:36 PM »
Wow, I finally found Ranch Dressing and Bacon Bits at Tesco.... The dressing was a little bottle though and didn't last long unfortunately but I'm shopping there again tonight :) I heard on UKY that Tesco is the place to go for American Food and I am happy I went! I also went to Tesco to see if I could find some Absinthe because I was told that they sell it but where I went, they didn't sell it :(

Harrods sells Absinthe.

Dodgy off licences sell Absinthe. If you're in London Princess, there's one in Old Compton St in Soho that sells it.

My Tescos sells Absinthe and 4 different kinds of Ranch dressing.

What I really want are Hidden Valley Ranch packets.

I bought Hidden Valley Ranch packets on e-Bay (UK) once... keep your eyes open on e-Bay and you never know what you will find... i've seen Diet A&W root beer (just bought some) and Kool-Aid as well.

BTW, Morrisons sells Bac-O's and their own brand fresh ranch dressing, which is really nice and tastes (IMO) just like Hidden Valley.

Aldi carries American-made Ranch dressing.  It's the Cardini brand, which is popular with restaurants in the USA.

I think you can also get this in Costco, but the Aldi bottle is smaller.

Is Cardini the one with the old guy on the label? Parmesan Ranch? It is really tasty, and usually there's a couple other American style dressings in the brand too which are nice but I can't remember at the moment.

I used to love the Cardini's Caesar, but they seemed to have changed the recipe.  It just doesn't taste the same now.   :(

By the way, I have recently seen Baco Bits at both Budgen and Sainsburys.

Hmmmm I hadn't noticed...I love Cardini's Caesar...

I went home in May and got some Hidden Valley Ranch Packets...I came home all excited - made some - and then promptly threw the whole thing in the bin.  I guess my tastes have changed - it tasted like lard to me.  Ick!

It seems to have coincided with the change of bottle shape.  They used to be long and tall.  Now they are shorter and more rotund -- with a more mayo taste than classic Caesar.  :(

Hmmmm maybe it's a regional change...the bottles haven't changed at my local Tesco...thanks for the "heads up" though...maybe I will head down to Tesco today and clear their shelf!  ;)

I make my own ranch now and would never go back to packets.  I found the recipe on allrecipes.com when I was having withdrawl.
