Texan in Yorkshire vlog:
« on: April 04, 2016, 06:10:57 AM »
Hi there expats!

I had an idea recently that I might vlog(video document) my experiences moving from Texas to the UK(Yorkshire) and getting settled there and just adjusting to life in general with all the differences. For example, getting my DL, registering for the NHS, grocery shopping, buying a home, geography, driving on the other side of the road, ...not speaking to total strangers like you know them(It's very normal here), etc.

I'd like to refer people to this site as well as it's been so helpful. I'm filing for a spousal visa to join my husband in July.

I'm going to post it over in the Visa section too for people who aren't actually living in the UK yet but are planning to because it's absolutely future and fellow expats that I'd want this aimed at. Is this something you'd watch? Would it be something you'd be interested in? I'm a bit on the fence.

Thanks for reading!

I probably wouldn't watch now... but might have when I first moved over. Although I have to say most of the fun of it was the adventure and the unknown! But I was a young(er) student then... Spouses would probably find it more useful.

Whereabouts in Yorkshire?
2004-2008: Student Visa
2008-2010: Tier 1 PSW
2010-2011: Tier 4
2011-2014: Tier 2
2013-2016: New Tier 2 (changed jobs)
16/12/15: SET (LR) successful! - It's been a long road...
12/05/16: Citizenship ceremony!

Sheffield! Well, a bit outside of it. Rotherham, to be exact. I thought it would be cool to document it regardless and I know my family and friends would enjoy it. I just thought it might be a cool experience but I'd love if it were actually useful or something still. lol

Sheffield......barely Yorkshire territory. And if you ask people up here.......it's down south. Still......I like the area.....lovely country.

I would agree that I might not watch now only because I have already gone through all of these things myself [and I do also like the adventure of not knowing] as well as my adjustment might have been different to yours because we are from very different states, but I definitely think that there are others who have not yet moved here that might be interested in it so it's definitely not a bad idea. Personally, I keep my own expat tumblr just to document my own travels and experiences or even just rant when I'm feeling the need but I don't necessarily do it for anybody but myself [and if somebody in the same situation happens to find it and get something out of it, even better!] so I think even just doing it for yourself to document your own progress, etc., would be a good idea! You might be able to help other people in similar situations to yourself adjust  :)  I think it would also be really great for your friends and family, as you said! Would be able to give them a look into your new life so they can feel a part of it!
My, how time flies....
