New American passport
« on: November 19, 2004, 10:50:11 AM »
Apologies if this was covered before. What are the steps for those of us in the UK to renew our passports. We have to get a new photo. What's the best place to get one that meets US specs? And then do we post it to the embassy? Does this have to be couriered now?

thanks.

Any passport photo booth in the post office, etc will be fine.  Then you can either take it to the embassy or post it.  It's easier to take it to the embassy because you can get it back that day (someone correct me if I'm wrong...).
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

Relatively certain that it has to be done via that courier system thingy that the embassy has set up? I know I really wanted to change my name in my passport before we went to the US for Thanksgiving, but decided against it 'cause from their website it appeared that I couldn't do it in person....

If you send in a photo from a photo booth it will be sent right back to you! DO NOT submit an application with that size photo.

Passports now have a scaned image and so a larger photo is needed.

Here are the instructions.

You may also submit your application by Royal mail, but make sure to inclose a return special delivery envelope.
