Going back to Idaho
« on: August 10, 2016, 03:52:01 PM »
I have been on this forum for a while now and some of you know me by the name I used when I first got on here of "snowlass".  I finished the journey of getting my ILR a couple of years ago.  I have been in the UK since February 2010.  If you remember my DH has MS and he is now permanently in a wheelchair.  We decided to go back to Idaho where my family live so we have the help we need now.  We went through the process of obtaining his visa, here is the timeline:
20 Jun 2015 - Applied for ACRO online
27 Jun 2015 - I-130 petition sent
30 Jun 2015 - ACRO certificate arrived (10 days)
06 Jul 2015 - Petition properly filed, payment taken, email receipt received (9 days)
11 Aug 2015 - I-130 approval letter received (36 days)
22 Aug 2015 - Letter with LND number arrived (11 days)
15 Sept 2015 - Everything postponed until April 2016
29 Mar 2016 - DS-260 filed online
4 April 2016 - Sent off for new ACRO (rather be safe than sorry)
8 April 2016 - Medical booked for 4 May 2016
30 April 2016 - Submitted "Notice of Applicant Readiness"
4 May 2016 - Medical completed - passed
24 May 2016 - Booked interview for 29 June 2016
29 June 2016 - Visa Approved!!!!!
06 July 2016 - Passport arrived via courier with Visa in it!!!!!

We are leaving on 20 September 2016 on the Queen Mary 2 as he is not able to travel on a plane and we thought it would be much easier to go that route as we are taking our 2 dogs back with us.  It has been a fun ride while living here, in fact 2 years ago we moved to Harlech, North Wales from Sevenoaks.  I have met a lot of different people along the way and it has been an adventure for me.  As far as obtaining my citizenship here in the UK it is not going to happen as I do not see us ever returning to live here.  We are both getting up there in years and his health is not good.  Hoping that the drier climate in a "high" desert will be much better for DH and his MS.  Also they took his DLA away from him 2 months ago due to his not being able to get to an appontment to be assessed for PIP.  Anyway we miss my kids grandkids and greats so will be good to be back.  We have bought a home already and a car so all we have to do now is wait for 5 more weeks, then a 7 day trip aboard a fabulous ship, then we will be "home".  I just want to thank all of you for the help I got when I was doing my USA to UK move, it was greatly appreciated.  Take care and I will be around lurking in the shadows.......  :)

Thanks for the post, it must have been fun to live in Sevenoaks and Harlech.  I've been to both of those places a few times and always thought I'd live there if I could.

Good luck in the US!

I never knew Idaho was the high desert! I'm from Western Colorado, right on the Utah border so I know the climate you mean.

Best of luck with your travels! I hope that the US is everything you want it to be. :)
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.
