Upgrading to priority
« on: August 01, 2016, 08:14:38 PM »
After submitting an visa spousal application, can you upgrade to priority after the package has arrived?
My packet arrived July 4th (as some other on this forum).
As everyone else, just having difficulty being patient. We would like to travel by September 21st.
thanks,
Application submitted: June 20th
Biometrics: June 27th
Package in Sheffield: July 4th

Yes, you can.

What date did you request as your travel date?  If you requested September 21, I wouldn't recommend upgrading as you wouldn't be able to leave any earlier.  Just my 2p.

I actually put September 14th, but with the idea of having a little buffer.

The VFS Global website used to say that it was possible to upgrade to priority after mailing the application (but it was not advised as they would have to dig out your application).

However they seem to have taken this information off the website and now there's no mention of being able to do it, so now I'm not sure.

The VFS Global FAQ actually now says:

Quote
Can I purchase Priority Visa Service/Settlement Priority Visa Service if I have already submitted my application at the UKVI?

No, you cannot purchase the Priority Visa Service/Settlement Priority Visa service once you have submitted your application to the respective UKVI Consulate for processing.

So, I don't know if it's worth the risk of spending all that money for priority in case it's no longer allowed and you lose the money.

Yeah, they seem to have sneakily changed a lot of the info on the VFS Global website lately :(.  Just now, I had an answer all prepared to tell you that yes, you could upgrade to priority and then I checked the website for the instructions, and they were gone!

However, you're already almost 1 month into the processing time, and you still have 1.5 months until you plan to travel, so to be honest, I'm not sure it would be worth it to upgrade, even if they still said it was allowed.

The longest I've seen non-priority take in the summer is 2-3 months, and by the time you get to 14th September, you won't be far off the 3-month mark anyway. It's not like you have to travel in the next 2 weeks or anything - you still have plenty of time.
