question on notification of birth abroad
« on: October 17, 2016, 10:14:48 AM »
I'm looking at the forms we need to fill out for the Consular Notification of Birth Abroad. Most of it seems pretty straightforward, but they want "precise dates" for where the parents lived in the US. Do I really need to look up the dates I moved off to undergrad 16 years ago? I honestly don't know how I'd figure that out at this point - I know it was August of 2000, if I just guess on the exact date is that okay or will it come back to bite me? I'm sure my husband will be in the same boat.

Also, Edinburgh is by far the closest consulate. Are we allowed to go there or do we have to go to London because we live in England? The website is unclear (at least from what I've seen so far).

You can go to Edinburgh.  Only difference is you mail your items to them in advance.  If you call, they're really helpful.

Do the best you can with the dates.  August 2000 is just fine.  Again, they are really friendly about it.  Just approximate dates works.
