Can I use PC to send international text msg to his mobile?

Can you text a UK mobile from the USA using your computer?

I do not have a phone so i need to know whchwebsite can I use to text his mobile phone......... any suggestions?

I have tried this before (cannot remember the site) and he never got my texts. maybe i put the numbers in wrong?

can anyone reccommend a site to use?

and how do I put in the numbers?  do I put in 011 44 on a international text?

If you have a Skype account and have credit on your account, you can text UK phones for 5p/message.  Messages will show up as being from your username and the recipient cannot reply.  You have the option of having Skype display a from number if you have a mobile phone, and then the recipient would reply directly to that number.

What Tim and I did -  I got a tri-band phone through Orange before I went back to the US in April.  I can receive texts for free in the US on it, but sending is 40p, so I've set up Skype to display my UK mobile as the from number and I send Tim texts via Skype and his replies go directly to my UK mobile.  I think I've topped up my phone by maybe £30 total since April. 

I think the OP said somewhere she doesn't having Skype and is using a public computer.

I can't recommend any sites I'm afraid cyberpunk but yes you would need to use the international dialling code in front of the number and leave off the 0 at the beginning of his number.

We tried this a few years ago with (IIRC) a feature Yahoo was offering.  The SMS would go one way, but not the other.  I can't remember which way it worked for, but perhaps things have improved by now.  It was a javascript box, so a shared computer should be no problem provided there is no firewall block.

I would suggest that the person with the phone gets something like AIM, YIM, or MSN messenger for their phone.  Most of these have ways of sending messages without actually signing into a program.  For instance, AIM has a web version (if they still support it).  YIM also has a web version, but it also allows you to send a message by clicking on someone's Yahoo profile.

The downside to this would be that the person with the phone would have to be signed into the app unless the program allows offline messaging.

We used Virgin Mobile before I moved.  You can get a cheap $10 phone, put minutes on it, activate international calling, and send texts/call.  It's not cheap, but I was able to text to the UK (not vice versa) this way.  When I had my Virgin phone, I think an international text was $0.25, and it was something like that a minute to call a UK landline.  Good for emergencies, and an option, especially if you can afford the top up pay monthly plans.

ok... i have an aol account.  I went to AIM...  i put in the numbers like 1144 and then his full mobile number.   As I left out the '0'

It said that my message was not sent because he is offline.  that's all it said.

Now what do I tell him about his settinngs for text messages on his mobile?  can he set the phone to get AIM offline or when he turns the phone on automatically?

do you think aim sends international text messages?

I don't understand why this never works for me.  i have sent him text messages on his mobile before and he never gets them.

is this because he needs to have certain settings for HIS phone to recieve these messages after he turns the phone back on or a setting to recieve offline messages?

I don't know about all the programs but more than likely you are going to have to put credit on your account to be able to send a text international, regardless of what website you are using.  You should be able to chat through AIM from your computer to your boyfriend's phone (if he is capable of logging onto AIM through his phone)...I did this all the time with domestic US chatting, but I don't know if it works internationally either.

Also, if you are texting and/or calling the UK from the US...the number would be:
01144 (then the full number minus the "0" at the beginning)

That depends on the phone/service. I just put in +44 on mine...but it has to have the plus sign. If I don't put the plus sign, then I need to add the 011. 

I was talking about a text to IM service or an IM to IM service.  He would need to have AIM/YIM/whatever on his phone.

ETA: I looked at Virgin phones and they do have some that are free (with minutes) to $20.  How Virgin (at least in the States) works is that a text is used for the IM.  So if you could get an app for his phone, it would cost you a text, but they have unlimited and 1000 text per month plans (all with no contract).  Some of the more sophisticated (and more expensive up front) probably have regular internet apps that don't take IMs out of your text pool.

With no voice plan, you could get unlimited text for 19.99 a month, and a lot of texts for like 14.99.  The pricing is different when you have a voice plan.  So that's an option, but an option that would need to be double checked (especially to make sure that his phone can handle apps).

Hello, I used www.cbfsms.com and it was free. You get replies free as well. Sometimes it gets busy though. Cannot think of any other place to suggest but it does work and quite simple to use as well.

We used this site as well. It says it's UK to UK only, but it worked for us except when I was on my sister's wireless. It somehow knew that IP was US and would refuse. But that is the only place I ran into that. Like Little Evo said, when it's busy it won't let you send a message, but it does tell you that (after you've typed it and clicked submit) so you are not left wondering if it did or did not.

There are a lot of sites out there that say "send texts for free" and they aren't wrong. But once you send a message, the recipient gets a text saying they've got a text, and if they reply to receive it it costs £XX.

hmmm... I don't understand why is isn't getting any of my text messages even through this last site you guys reccomended?    Is it HIS mobile phone settings perhaps?
