Sorry about that Ksand!  Yes, it was KFDancer. I'm just thankful to have you both in this forum - all of you!  I don't know how you keep up with everyone's stories and your commitment to the members in this forum is unbelievable.

What event is taking you to Antarctica Ksand?  That sounds amazing!  Have always wanted to go.  Saw a documentary about people who live and work there through the Summer and the real hard core ones that tough it out through Winter as well.  You are hard core Ksand - I love it!

Actually, it'll be coming into Summer right?  Have been thinking in northern hemisphere terms for too long.  Anyway, amazing and look forward to updates Ksand when you land there!

Ksand is a meteorologist and has had some pretty awesome assignments over the years!  Hopefully she'll come along and tell you about them.   :)

Oooooo, I remember you saying that was a possibility!  Seriously, you are the coolest person I know - except I wouldn't have a clue if I was standing next to you in the checkout at Tesco!   :P

We WILL need updates.  And maybe some penguin selfies?

Lol - thanks :). Will do my best re: updates and selfies. Just not sure how good the internet will be, since it's apparently like old-school dial-up.

We've been told no Skype and no instant messaging - because they just won't work. Basic webmail may load... or it may not, and Facebook might just work... occasionally. So, at this point, I don't know if I will be able to get UK-Y to load there or not.

Fabulous!!!  ;D  Are you excited?

Thanks :). Excited, but also not quite sure if I'm ready to go yet :P.

Just got my flight confirmations through yesterday - 4 flights just to get there (Day 1: Heathrow-Madrid, Madrid-Santiago, Santiago-Punta Arenas on day 1. Day 2: Punta Arenas-Antarctica... if the weather is good enough for the Rothera plane to fly that day - if it's not, I could be stuck in Chile for up to a few days).

Thanks :). I'll be one of those people living and working there over the summer (at the Rothera Research Station on the Antarctic Peninsula). I don't think I could do a winter - you're stuck down there for 18 months (Oct/Nov 2016 to April 2018)!

I'll be forecasting the weather for the pilots who flying people in and out of Antarctica (to/from Chile), and also for the pilots flying between the various research stations/field camps.

This is just so cool.  How many other people will be living there at the same time?  I'll give you what everyone said to me before moving to the UK, "oooo, you are gonna go and meet some other researcher and fall in love in Antarctica!"  Probabaly an American.  But hey, you know the visa process!   ;)

If they have a speed dating night, tread carefully.   ;)

In the summer, there are anywhere between 80 and 120 people at the station at one time (in the winter, it's more like 20 people in total between April and October with no flights or ships in or out).

Lol :P.

There are a disproportionate number of men to women down there - about 75% to 25%, so could be interesting!

That is super cool Ksand!

Thanks, Phu :).
