Application says Appendix 1 but it should be 2?
« on: November 13, 2016, 03:33:30 PM »
Hi all, I am finally applying for my visas today for my wife and 2 kids. My wife's is done, and as expected when I selected Reason for visit (settlement), Visa type (settlement), Visa sub-type (Wife) it said to do Appendix 2.

However, when I select all the above but "Child or Other Dependent of Settled Person" for sub-type, it says I should do Appendix 1 for the two kids. Based on the reading I've done (including lots of searching on this forum), I was expecting Appendix 2 for all three of them, not just my wife...the box at the top of the Appendix 1 form definitly doesn't apply to my kids but it makes me nervous that the official UK visa site seem to think that Appendix 1 is the right one!!!

The visa4uk website isn't always right and often their information is out of date/incorrect - it's definitely not Appendix 1.

The visa4uk application site also says you have 2 weeks from biometrics to mail the application to Sheffield, but this is also untrue... It's 5 days from biometrics.

Great, that's a relief. Just wanted to make sure.

Got a bit of a shock when I saw that the Priority fee I'd seen for the visas was $189 when in fact (for settlement visas) it's $567! Oh well, we have the cash and it's worth it as we are hoping to go quickly.

One question...I notice on the UK Yankee site they suggest buying the courier and priority services just before I mail off the package to Sheffield. However on the VFS Global site, they say to do it before we go for biometrics. Based on the info I have, the biometrics don't care at all about either of those things so I don't understand why I'd need to do it before our biometrics appointments?

Yeah, priority for settlement visas is $567 per application (processed in Sheffield).

It's gone down a bit recently due to the falling value of the pound - a couple of months ago settlement priority was $612 (it's £450 but the exchange rate changes).

The $189 fee is for all other applications except settlement visas (processed in NYC) - so visitor, work, student etc. visas.

It used to be that you could only purchase priority ON THE DAY you mailed the application and not before... so that would be after biometrics anyway.

Now though, it's changed and it doesn't have to be on the same day as you mail it, so now I don't really think it matters too much when you buy it.

Thanks. Well on the up-side, the unexpected extra cost of the priority fees is partly coming back to us due to exchange rates making the visa application fees slightly less! For the three of them we budgeted $7500 (the 3 visa apps plus the 3 NHS surcharges) but at the moment it will work out to "only" about $6900.

I did notice that the hand-off to the NHS surcharge payment site is buggy...it pulled over my wife's first and last name (only) despite the fact that I have her first and middle names listed in the Given Name(s) fields on the app. Similarly it said she did not have any dependent children, when that box is very clearly marked Yes on her app, and both kids entered.

It might seem a minor thing to them but it's nerve-wracking, with so much money at stake, with disparities like that...causing you to second-guess that you've done something wrong, when you haven't.

...oh wow, went to pay the NHS surcharge for my daughter and got a great bit of news!

"Exempt based on being under 16 and applying under visa Route: Settlement - Child or dependant of settled"

That will save us a ton!

That's an error on the website!  They will contact you for payment.

Save save save, the fees rise substantially each year!

Oh well. So since payment of the surcharge is a critical piece of the documentation I need to submit, how will that affect me sending off all my stuff?! Biometrics already booked for Wednesday...

It's been a bug with the system for several months now.  Send the application off and Sheffield will contact you for payment information when they process the child's application.  At least you'll know they've been approved when they ask for the payment details!  (As otherwise they wouldn't need the payment).

Good tip. Will they reach out via email and give us a number to contact them or something?

Yes, they'll contact you via email.  I imagine the credit card details are sent via secure website.
