Accomodation issue for spouse visa
« on: August 07, 2017, 06:36:46 PM »
We will be applying for spouse visa in about two weeks and our tennacy agreement with the landlord will start only around this week(8th august). According to the requirements that our lawyer gave us,we need to hand in council tax bill and utility bills as well as correspondence mail to our new address, but what if my spouse in thr UK has not yet moved in the new house and thus does not have any bills or mail to hand in. Is that fine??

For the accommodation requirement you don't need any mail. You need the tenancy agreement and if her name is not on it too, a letter from the landlord giving her permission to live there with you when the visa is granted.

Sounds like your lawyer is giving you incorrect information.

You do not need council tax or utility bills for the accommodation requirement. :)

Just the lease and a letter from the landlord giving her permission to live there when her visa is granted.

You only need correspondence to both of you at the same address for FLR(M)  and ILR.

My lawyer also said i need to show proof that i paid the rent for this month by showing bank statement or rent reciept. Is that required? Because what if the landlord is a relative and agrees to not take rent for a couple of months as he knows our money is tight due to the high visa fees?

Nope, you don't need that either. Sounds like your lawyer doesn't know what they're talking about!

Literally ALL you need is:
- valid tenancy agreement
- letter from the landlord giving the visa applicant permission to live in the property too if they are not named on the tenancy

Council tax and utility bills do not prove you have the landlord's permission to live in the property, so they are not required at all.
