Aaaannd we're back on again!
« on: January 26, 2017, 08:46:40 PM »
(waves real big) hope everybody I remember from before is doing well! And everybody else, for that matter  ;0)

Was on here some time ago, had a few inconvenient hiccups in our moving plans, got it sorted, now we're back on track. We're figuring on the latter half of this year depending on how a couple of job opportunities play out and how fast the house sells. I'm the eleven year partner of a UK citizen who's wanted to move back home for some time. We're still aiming for Scotland as that's where most of my Better Half's family are.

Yeah, if I recall right, I should be good to do the ILR for civil partners of UK citizens unless the requirement has changed drastically. I have 10+ years of co-owning a house, utility bills, and bank accounts in common to show. Someone mentioned that he'll now have to show sponsorship support for me; I need to read up on that but I think we have a couple of ways to do it. He's got a good job possibility lurking; if Brexit/economic messiness mucks that up I think we can possibly do a six month's visitor for me while he nails something down, and then me come back to the US to apply for ILR. We've been keeping an eye on the job market for CNC related work and there's usually a range of job openings.

I haven't figured out whether I'm better off trying to transfer some leftover college credits into something, transferring my business here over there (it's something I'll keep doing whether it's my main income or not; not enough to qualify for the entrepreneur visa though), or just looking for something when I get permission to work. It kinda depends on what's up with the job market where he lands a job. I can play jack-of-all-trades pretty well, I have some decent marketing input on my business having a niche, and I have a handful of people we know in the UK trying to talk me into going into teaching. Still working on all that.

I'm betting someone is typing up a nice long answer for you regarding the visa situation.

Things changed drastically in 2012, and not for the better or easier. And then another thing in 2014.

There is indeed a sponsorship requirement, it's either income or savings. Depends on how you try to qualify.

They're very anti-immigration here in the UK now and they aren't very shy about it. It's a bit frustrating. ILR is only gotten after 5 years of settlement visas now.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

As Lyonaria said, visas for the UK have changed beyond all recognition. It's still doable though, just a lot more expensive, time consuming and you have to be meticulous with the evidence you provide.

A little light reading for you.  :)

Agreed; Parliamentary and First Minister's questions sessions the last few years have been "interesting". Still druther trade it for the kneejerking off we're seeing here. That's not in the main list of reasons we want to move, but I can be optimistic.

Between what we've seen personally and talking to family, friends, and organizational acquaintance, how likely someone is to sabotage paperwork or firebomb the house can differ a lot by locale just like it does here. We're also taking that into consideration about where we try to land. We are aware that there are people here and there who are likely to tell BH that he's been gone this long, he has no right to return, especially not bringing some US dirtbag trollop with him. There are people here who want him thrown out for not becoming a US a citizen or both of us thrown out for not being any number of things, so we're used to it.

If we can do the sponsorship on savings, we should be solid between what we have and the house sale even if the company BH is talking to doesn't go with expanding after all.

I should probably be having this convo over on the visa page, tho, neh? Mainly wanted to post on the WW page before I got back to reading up  ;0)

That's pretty much what I already have, with some stuff from TalentScotland, NARIC, and UKCES.

One of the mods is likely to ask me why I'm talking about this on here instead of reading the resources on the visa page first though, and I hate to look like another  brainless twit that can't be bothered to read. Will switch discussion over to there once I get a chance to go back through the data   ;0)

If you can do it with savings, then that's great news. It's by far the easiest method to evidence.  :)

Don't worry about talking visas in the Welcome Wagon. No-one is going to tell you off. We're not that other forum.  ;)

Having said that, feel free to post in the visa section when you're ready.  :)
