Spouse Visa - how long do you intend to stay?
« on: January 31, 2017, 04:10:31 PM »
I've written "indefinitely", is that appropriate?

Also, listed on the printout of my online visa application is "British Consulate General New York - New York" as the issuing office, even though this is a wife settlement visa application. Is this simply an outdated spec for that field or have I done something wrong?

Finally, if there are any minor edits to be made on the application pages printed out, should I simply mark them with pen?

Thank you!

As for the first question, the spouse visa is only valid for 30 or 33 months (i can't remember which). There's no knowing for sure if you will be able to renew it with possible changes to the rules in the future or other circumstances... Although you may plan to renew there's not really much room to put that. It's quite common to see people putting the 30/33 months or "length of visa". Saying indefinitely could make it seem as though u want to stay even after the visa is valid.

Indefinitely is what you should be putting.

You are applying for a 'settlement visa' which is a visa that leads to settlement in the UK (INDEFINITE Leave to Remain). So they are expecting it to be a permanent move for you.

Absolutely indefinitely as Ksand says. Cause you don't know if you'd decide to stay or go, it depends on a lot of factors. So indefinite it is!
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Thank you!

As for the NY Consulate being listed as the issuing office - is that an error in their system that simply hasn't been altered since the process has changed?

It's not a huge deal.

If you look at the definition of indefinite it doesn't mean 'forever' it means 'vague' or 'an unknown length of time.' Indefinite is kind of like indeterminate. Indefinite can be short or long. Haha.

Thank you!

I questioned that as well but its def an error in the system as they used to be processed in NYC but all settlement visas are now in Sheffield. So long as you send everything to the Sheffield address and NOTHING to New York you should be fine.
