Naturalisation marriage interview
« on: February 25, 2017, 04:55:37 PM »
Does anyone know if there is any chance to be invited to attend an interview when you apply for naturalisation based on being spouse of British citizen?

I received my ILR in January based on 10 years long residence. We chose to do this because I would have had to wait another year Before I could apply for ILR based on 5 years on spouse visa.

Just wondering if anyone has heard of this or if they would have any reason to want to interview us at naturalisation stage?

I haven't read that they need interviews on any other forum.

phyickate's signature says she did this route to BC. She might be along later to put your mind at ease.

Thank you Sirius. Hoping for a reply from phyickate

I should mention there have been no issues in any of my
previous applications over the years, all were straightforward,  nothing complicated. Marriage visas also no issues, both the initial flrm and second flrm granted same day via premium service. We were never called for an interview. Although this fact makes me think they might use this chance to call us for a marriage interview.

There is no interview for naturalisation.

There is an interview for your first UK passport, but it's just to confirm you are who you say you are.

I second this.

It was an odd interview; I had moved to a new village a couple months before I applied to naturalise and was not terribly familiar with the area. They asked things like, how do you get to the doctor's surgery from your house? Is the cafe or surgery closer to your house (those are the only two non-houses on my street)? Where do the trains from your station go to? Where is the nearest cash point? Basically trying to get me to prove that I lived where I say I do. I can't remember many/ any questions about my husband...

Yep! They ask you where you park your car, if your house has a basement, etc, etc. LOL

Ditto what everyone said about the simple/odd questions for the first passport (not citizenship application).

I think they also ask some intentionally misleading question to catch out anyone misrepresenting themselves. I was applying based on marriage to my UK husband. The interviewer asked how my visa was connected with my husband's work visa (or something like that). I'm guessing she had all the correct info in front of her, but wanted to be sure I was who I said I was and she seemed pleased that I'd corrected her. It was quite obvious to me, but if someone was lying on the application or sitting in on the interview for someone else, it would have caught them out.

If you are who you say you are, it's easy peasy.

Thank you all

I have come across a few instances of people being called for interview at naturalisation stage, however it does seem that all those cases had something flag up which HO wanted to investigate further. So seems to be rare and exceptional rather than the norm
