Passport/Visa/Outcome missing.
« on: February 21, 2017, 09:09:13 PM »
Hi,
We recently applied for a UK Fiance visa for my partner (US Citizen). We paid for the premium service and return courier service. We have had an email saying a decision has been made (didn't say yes or no) from Sheffield and today all the supporting documents were returned to him, but no passport, visa or outcome letter!

Has this happened to anyone? - We're sort of freaking out.

He had his biometrics taken in New York but we posted the application separately so we were expecting the passport and visa to come back with the docs. the email from Sheffield is a little confusing as to whether it should have or whether the passport will go to the VAC in NYC.

Thanks.

What do you mean you posted the documents separately?  Did you not send the application, passports, and supporting documents together to Sheffield?

Did you purchase return shipping with VFS?

Everything was sent together. What I meant by seperately was that he sent them via the VFS UPS Courier (it was a prepaid return), they weren't submitted in the office he gave his biometrics in.

He should have had his passport, decision outcome and if succesful - visa - back with the documents shouldn't he?

Oh okay, that's the normal process.

I bet they forgot to put the passport in the package!  As it should have been returned with everything else.

Let me see if I can find the email address to Sheffield for you to inquire.  You may also want yo contact your MP and see if they can inquire too.  This isn't normal (but will. E resolved).

Thanks - I did think about my MP. We've called a help line and it's been escalated - whatever that means - internally. The worst part is still not knowing if it was approved. The passport can be replaced.

Just as an FYI, the 'help line' is really anything but. They don't have access to anything and most of the people don't even have a working knowledge of how to apply for the settlement visas.

Keep at it with your MP. And email, the emails actually go to the right department.

The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Give this email a try  VisaSheffield@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk.

Yeah, no point wasting your money calling the "line".  They are 100% useless.

Keep us posted.  I'd definitely contact your MP as well (they have a designated phone line they can call).

So we're trapped in a Kafkaesque situation now.

Sheffield have said that they sent it and no longer reply to any emails. I have contacted my MP's office and they have said that they'll hopefully get onto it by next week.

Meanwhile all our plans are up in the air.

Ugh, how awful.  Are Sheffield saying it was in the original package?  If so, did the package seem damaged in any way?  Did they let you know if it was approved, so at least you know if you get a new passport, you could have it endorsed with the vignette?

I'm sorry your MP isn't acting with a bit more urgency.   :-\\\\

We've literally just had a reply from Sheffield - first since Wednesday. They have confirmed that the visa application was successful (phew!) but they are adamant that the passport was sent! If we send a new passport they'll reissue the visa on that one.

Whilst it's a massive pain in the ars* at least it's good news.

Thanks for all the advice.
