Moving within UK, not sure if I need to inform the gov, and how
« on: February 22, 2017, 02:24:13 PM »
Hi all!!! I'm a US citizen, married to a Brit, and just recently passed my first year after getting my spousal visa and moving to the UK.

My spouse and I are moving, and I'm not sure whether I need to inform the government of my new address/how to do this. I found a Change of Circumstances form, but it didn't seem to apply to my kind of visa. Thanks so much for the help!

Do you have a BRP card?  If so, yes you are supposed to inform them.  But the form doesn't have a "spouse/partner" option.   ::)  But I'd fill it in and send it off anyways.

If your visa is a sticker in your passport, you don't need to do anything.

I do have a BRP card. It doesn't have my address listed on it, so I wasn't sure, but had a feeling they'd want an updated address.

Ok, so on the form, do I just leave blank the question about being under the Tier 1,2,4,5? Unless I'm mistaken (totally possible) spouses are not under any of those tiers, correct?

Also, thanks!!!

No, it's not one of those tiers.  When I did it, I just wrote underneath "spouse".   :)

They don't send confirmation or anything, but you'll have a clear conscience that you followed the rules.  :)

Hahahaha!! Oh goodness. After the application process, you'd think I'd be less shocked by how unhelpful the government/their website is about stuff like this, but I guess not.

Thank you so much for the help. I'll print this thing out and send it off!

Hey there,

I update mine anytime we move house because I'm paranoid! I always use this online form. A bit of a pain because you need a scan/copy of a utility bill with your new address.
