I hope the home office take into account the supreme courts comments regarding consideration for third party sources of funding, this would be huge if a family member or friend could help to meet the required MIR amount.

It would be good, but I doubt it's going to happen. Before the £18,600 requirement was introduced in 2012, you WERE allowed to use third party sources of funding, meaning family members could help you out.

When they introduced the new threshold, they stopped third party support and stipulated that ONLY the UK sponsor was allowed to meet the requirement - it was a measure taken to prevent as many people as possible from being able to qualify for the visa... in order to reduce immigration. Almost 5 years later, immigration numbers have barely changed, so I can only see them making it even more difficult to qualify in future, not easier.
