renewing car tax
« on: June 22, 2017, 01:55:33 PM »
So we're leaving the country on July 11 and are planning to sell our car to one of those webuyanycar.com places a few days before. I just got a letter saying our tax is due June 30. I have no intention of paying a couple hundred pounds for a car I'm only going to be driving for a few days, is there anything I can do short of taking the risk of driving it untaxed?

You can pay monthly so you won't be too much out of pocket for those last few days.
Looks like you'd have to set up a direct debit and then cancel it obviously but at least you would be legal.  :)

eta although that would also depend on when your mot expires...

You should get a SORN declaration if you don't want to drive it at all.  You also can't park it on the street.  You may get a lower price than expected if it is due a MOT.

Remember, your insurance may be void if the tax is unpaid
