Who's been to a Grateful Dead show?
« on: April 27, 2017, 03:44:16 PM »

I've heard that Son of Sailor was their tour managers from 1972-1984, but who else has been to a Dead show?  Now is the time for all the hippies to fess up!

My money is on Phatbeetle.

I'll start:

Charlotte 1985 (high school senior, no idea what I was seeing, still believe to this day that someone dosed me)

Richmond Va 1987 (ticket for reckless driving)

Carowinds Amusement Park 1988 (working)

Moffat Field Navy Base 1989

Golden Gate Park 1991 (Bill Graham memorial concert)

I'm not a hippie.

I think Phatbeetle's a pretty safe bet!

When they came offstage they would often ask me for my thoughts...I would always say, "Needs more noodling".

I have seen Phish...

I went to the Design Museum yesterday and look what I found:

I'll let others debate wether an old T dye shirt is a design icon worthy of inclusion.  Certainly not that one.

Also the other day I used the website instead of Tapatalk and noticed an extra little signature bit that doesn't show up in Tapatalk.  I did spot a Deadhead!

Not me, but when I worked at Disneyland in 1990, I escorted Jerry and his daughter, who was 2 1/2-3 years or so, through the line for Alice and Wonderland  around. He was very nice and I have a photo with him floating around somewhere. I had a friend at the time who was a total deadhead and I think she stopped being friends with me for awhile when I sent her a copy of the picture!

Been there, done that... what a long strange trip it's been.... ;D mooooooooooooo

There's a Grateful Dead channel on Roku that has recordings of a lot of their concerts. Handy to put on while doing housework. (Oh, now that's sacrilegious, isn't it???)  ;D ;D

I went to Oakland, CA in November 1986 to see my favorite band, Simple Minds, perform a concert. My sister and I traveled from Texas for the gig, we arrived the day before and drove to the venue from our hotel to make sure we knew how to get there and back. That night, we got caught in foot traffic around the venue because the Grateful Dead were performing. For some strange reason, we ended up within the throngs of people and before you know it, we are at the front doors. Obviously, we didn't have tickets but some lady gave us hers for free because she couldn't make it. So, we went in. I had no idea what was going on and have probably only heard one song of theirs my entire life but it was a good night. I found the fans amusing, the band sounded good so I had a good experience. When we went to see MY band the next day, Deadheads were still outside the venue and probably laughing at all the silly SM fans...
