Minor Travel From UK back to US
« on: July 21, 2017, 08:44:45 AM »
My 15 year old is making a trip back to the US to visit in a week. She is a minor, so I've written a letter of consent for her to travel alone and with family who will be meeting her at the airport. My question, in this last minute scramble, is do I need to get the letter certified along with a copy of my own identification?

It doesn't need to be certified.  Ideally it should be signed by both parents though.  I'd include a photocopy of both parents passports so they can see the matching signatures.  She may not be asked for it, but better to be prepared.

I cannot have it signed by both parents. I have custody of her, and her father lives in the US. She is going to visit him. She lives in the UK with me and her stepfather.

If she is going to see her dad then I would say not to worry about it.

I know traveling from the US as a US citizen, they want the travel docs to be notarized.

When my daughter went to Australia, they didn't ask for it but I made sure she had it just in case.

My daughter  (17, almost 18) is coming to visit me in August and she won't have a letter as both her father and I are currently out of the country but since she is coming to see me, I'm not worried about it.
