Hello from Orlando Florida
« on: December 10, 2004, 12:32:10 AM »
Hello all,

This is Natalia from Orlando, FL.  I am halfway through my Ph.D. and I am very interested in spending some time in the UK, either teaching or doing research.

I guess I am looking for a bit of direction as far as how to start the process.  I think I am very well qualified and would be an asset to any Uni.  However I have loads of question about visas and such.

Anyway, thought this might be a good place to seek advice.

Feel free to drop me a line at bairesluv@aol.com

Natalia

Hello Natalia.  :)  It's my understanding that the UK is crying out for more teachers, and I'm certain there are programs to get foreign teachers over here, although I'm afraid the name escapes me at the moment.   :-\\\\  Good luck in your journey.  :)
Ask and ye shall be babbled at.

Welcome!

Are you interested in teaching at the Uni level or secondary or what?  Because honestly, uni lecture jobs are a LOT harder to come by than other teaching jobs.  There's no shortage of lecturers but there is of other teaching positions.

Good luck..  :D
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

I know we have several lecturers that are from the USA and Canada but not sure how they got here.  A post doc might be in order is well.... I think it basically depends on what field you are in and what the need is.
