I was wondering though when you came in did you say you were here on holiday to visit your partner?.

I said boyfriend my first trip then fiance on my subsequent trips.

They just asked if I knew I needed a special visa to get married, asked if I had a return ticket, asked about my job (I was actually a student on my first 3 trips, one time skipping a semester to visit) and the last time I just worked part time as a barista. And that was about it.

Dude, your biggest worry is not the border guards, it's the in laws!  Have you met them?  What are you going to do when you notice they don't rinse the dishes?  Or keep playing that horrible "This is Christmas" song by Slade?  Be prepared, traditional English Christmas can be hard work.
