Proof of ownership
« on: December 29, 2017, 06:31:52 PM »
Just planning ahead to cover off a few pieces of evidence for USA>UK Spouse Visa, but wanted clarification around one item:

The requirements mention 'land registry' document for proof of ownership of the property. My mum is the owner of the property (I have lived there for some years), and I know about the letter we need outlining her approval of my wife to live with us etc.

What I was wondering is; is it ONLY the land registry document that is acceptable, or other docs (e.g. conveyancing paperwork). We're struggling to find a 'land registry document' among the house paperwork so I may need to apply for a proper copy from gov.uk?

Thanks

Update: the property isn't registered at the land registry (which isn't mandatory in general terms), but we have the original 1986 conveyancing paperwork. Does anyone know if that is sufficient or must I register the property with the land registry? Thanks

If that’s the case, then you might find that she, or your family solicitor are in possession of the title deeds which are perfect to use.

Are 'Title Deeds' a separate, distinct document? She has the Conveyance document (which trawling through her stuff seems to be the main useful document), stamped, signed and dated regarding the purchase of the property.

Further down that same document on page 1 it says 'now this deed witnesseth as follows', then covers the financial part etc. etc. Sounds like this is what I need?

if this does the trick, does Sheffield require the original document?

Thanks

Everything should be original or a certified copy.

I'm not sure. The deeds (for my house in any case) go as far back as the first owner of the property and changed hands with each sale.
