Flying to UK today with Fiance Visa
« on: January 10, 2018, 09:11:10 AM »
I will be traveling today Seattle-London-Edinburgh for the first time since receiving my fiance/marriage visa. I'm bringing two large suitcases (checked baggage), a carry on (which has my wedding dress vacuum sealed inside), and laptop/camera backpack.

Will I need to fill out any forms regarding moving my belongings along with me? I don't have anything with me of high value except my dress and some jewelry. A few weeks back I remember someone mentioning a form they had to bring when moving their items and now I'm overthinking it. Thanks so much!

No, you only need to complete a ToR if shipping items.

Safe journey! Just over two years ago I was doing this same process. I was nervous, excited and scared. But it’s all turned out great!  And going through customs was a breeze for once

Best wishes for your future

Safe travels! I had a TOR completed for my kitty and the items I'll be shipping within the year, but didn't need it for the bags I brought on the plane. If they do charge you import tax for anything you can complete the TOR after you're here and claim it back but based on our experiences that's unlikely to happen!

It's the EU who wants an import tax on goods coming in to an EU country, to  protect the EU companies/EU farming countries etc, who want to sell their goods to those who live in the EU. Protectionism is always paid for by the people who need to buy.

Outside the EU, a country can decide for themselves whether or not to use the WTO (World Trade Organisation) rules with that country.  Or they can decide not to charge an import tax on some goods, even if there is no trade deal with that country.  The US is one of the many countries that trades with the EU under WTO rules.
