Filing Joint UK Return with Spouse
« on: January 11, 2018, 05:03:10 PM »
I'm a US Citizen and a UK resident (ILR) living with my British wife in the UK. Is it possible to file a married filing jointly UK income tax return? If yes, how to I do it? Where can I get more information? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance,
John

It’s a different set of thinking needed if you have the ability to allocate your income between the 2 of you to avoid some taxes. eg I have private pensions and my wife has none so all our after tax savings and investments are in her name only to maximize her tax free allowance as all of my allowance is taken up with my pensions.

Thank you all for your replies. I didn't think you could file a joint return in the UK.
