Minimum income for visa
« on: November 05, 2017, 03:16:20 PM »
Sorry if this is in the wrong thread!

My husbands visa was granted in July and he is now here with me in England (hooray!)
I hate the job I got to earn enough to get him in the country, I have been looking at some others but I might fall below the required amount of wages needed for the visa. So I have a few questions...

Does this even matter as long as I am earning enough when we come to apply for the second visa in two years?

Can my husbands wage cover the gap or just cover it overall?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Nope, it doesn’t matter - you can change jobs as much as you like now, as long as you can meet the financial requirement again in 2.5 years.

And now that he is in the UK with his visa, his income can be combined with yours to meet the £18,600 requirement in 2.5 years, or if either of you meets the requirement just with your own income you can use that (I.e. if you are unemployed but he earns at least £18,600, you can just use his income for the next visa).

Does anyone have any experience of doing this? Is the process the same?

The financial requirements are the same but as mentioned, employment income from the applicant can now be counted, happens all the time!

Lots and lots of people have experience doing it... a large number of people who are applying for their second visa will have different financial circumstances compared with their first visa :).

The income you have between now and the last 6 or 12 months of the visa is not relevant... all that matters is that between you, you meet the requirement in the final 6 or 12 months before you apply for the next visa.

So, the only difference is in whose income you fill out on the form when you apply for the next visa:

- if the sponsor's income is over £18,600 and they meet the requirement using only their salary at the time of applying, then they only fill out their income details and only provide their income documents

- if the applicant's income is over £18,600 and they meet the requirement using only their salary, then they only fill out their income details and only provide their income documents

- if you need to combine both your salaries to meet the £18,600 requirement, then you fill out both your employment details, and each provide your own set of financial documents.
