Moving to new address within UK

Hello all ...

A general question I couldn't find in a search here.

We're moving house and I'm wondering about a "change of address" notice to the Royal Mail.  I've researched "Keepsafe" and "Redirect" but there is a charge for those and they seem like temporary solutions.

Is there a simple process to catch all mail and have it delivered to our new address??

We'll update important agencies over time but just wondering ... move in date is April 1st.

Yeah it's not a free service here.

I left my address for the next tenants/owners and they were good at forwarding for a bit.

Also can confirm it's not free, unfortunately.

We have been in our place just shy of 11 months now. I still get mail for the former tenants, even after having written "not at this address - return to sender" on everything for the first eight months.  Now I just throw it out - I recognize some of the senders as repeats.

We get mail for people (several different names) who haven't lived here in YEARS. Mostly collection notices for them not paying council tax or notices that the sheriff is coming to take them away. This flat used to be transient housing so lots of people have lived here over the last 5 years.

Yeah, similar.  Did have someone knock on the door looking for them, once, and had to tell them that we'd only just moved in and that the place had been vacant for a few months, so we couldn't help them. They shop at Waitrose, though, as I keep getting their bonus mailings.

Same! The people we bought our house off of refused to provide us with their forwarding address but also refused to actually properly sort out their mail forwarding. Nobody even noticed when we did the "return to sender - no longer lives here" as they just kept sending stuff.

They were bizarre and scummy people so we honestly weren't shocked lol. And they got mail to like 5 or 6 different people!! And also tried to tell us they moved because the house was haunted. LOL many many interesting stories about these people.
