Income Requirement confusion
« on: July 17, 2018, 06:28:44 PM »
So I currently work a salaried job and am earning £400 a year short of the required income for the spouse/family visa that my husband needs to apply for,  I am looking for an extra non-salaried job that I can work to boost my income to the required £18,600 a year but I'm getting confused with what the .gov website says.

Can I combine salaried and non-salaried employment to meet the income requirement or do I have to meet the income requirement solely on 1 job?

Many thanks for any replies.

Yes, you can - you can combine income from as many jobs as you need to.

However, the income that can be used towards the visa will be calculated differently for the salaried job compared to the non-salaried job.

In order to apply under Category A, you will need to have held BOTH jobs for at least 6 months before you can apply for the visa:
- for the salaried job, they will take the lowest pre-tax payslip from the 6 months and multiply it by 12 to get the annual income from that job
- for the non-salaried job, they will add up all 6 months of payslips, divide by 6 and multiply by 12 to get the average annual income
Then they will add the two together to get the total income

If you have not held both of them for 6 months, you will need to apply under Category B, where you must show:
- total pre-tax earnings of £18,600 or more in the last 12 months (i.e. every payslip added together)
AND
- guaranteed current and future earnings of at least £18,600 from both jobs combined (so you would need to show £18,200 salary from one job and a guaranteed £400 or more per year from the non-salaried job)
