Evidence of relationship
« on: April 02, 2018, 06:37:07 PM »
Just a quick question (since I don't need to re-apply till March 2020), but I was going through my new bills since coming back to the UK after waiting in the US for visa approval.

I have a bunch of bills from the previous visa application. Should I keep them as proof of us living together for the entirety of our relationship, or do I really only need to keep bills for the time between visas (2017-2020)?

Don't want to throw something away if I'll definitely need it in the future.

You only need the bills since your spouse visa.

BUT, I wouldn't throw anything away until you are completely finished with your immigration journey.  Up to and including citizenship!

Ah so not essential for the Spouse-to-FLR(M) switch in 2020, but deff essential further on. I haven't gotten rid of the past application or rejection so I'll probly just put them all in a folder

Cheers KFdancer!!

Actually currently it’s not essential for any of your future visas or citizenship (as you only need to show the most recent 2 years or so of cohabitation for each visa), so the advice to keep everything is more of a ‘just in case’ measure (just in case they change the rules or just in case you need to prove you lived together in the US for any reason).

Ahh we didn't live together in the US. It was bills from when I was on the student visa, applied for FLR(M) and was rejected, then went to the US to apply for spousal. So it was stuff from 2016- early 2017 ish.

I have stuff saved from late 2017 till now for the next one. Starting to think I might need a bigger folder for everything  ::)

Ah, okay - sorry, I was replying on my phone and the new Tapatalk update means I can’t scroll back up to see previous posts when I’m replying so I just have to guess :P.

Okay, so if your next visa application is in March 2020, you will only need to include cohabitation relationship evidence from March 2018 onwards.

Then for your ILR in 2022, you’ll just need evidence from 2020 onwards.

And for citizenship, you don’t need any evidence of cohabitation, you just provide your marriage certificate to show you are married to a U.K. citizen.

Ah sweet! I know I'm ages away from the application, but I'm being really paranoid about everything cause I'm officially in the "less than two years" countdown.
