Documents for ILR (SET M)
« on: March 23, 2018, 11:21:50 PM »
I'm finding it difficult to understand how many documents I need for the ILR:

Correspondence with both of our names:
I have 3x bank statements
1x council tax statement
1x mortgage statements

Correspondence with my name:
2x bank letters
2x HMRC letters
1x council tax letter

Correspondence with his name:
1x GP letter
1x HMRC letter

Financials:
6x payslips for me
6x payslips for him
6 months of bank statements showing salaries coming in for both of us
Letter from his employer stating his earnings and period of employment (his salary meets the requirement, mine doesn't)

Is this enough for documentation? If not how many more documents do I need?

It’s exactly the same documents as for your FLR(M), and the documents you need should be on the application form.

Off the top of my head:

Applicant:
- Your passport
- Any other passports you have held since moving to the U.K.
- BRP card
- 2 passport photos of you with your name on the back

Sponsor
- Passport (or full photocopy of applying by post)
- 1 passport photo with name on the back

Finances:
- 6 months of HIS payslips only
- 6 months HIS bank statements only
- employer letter from HIS employer only
Optional but recommended:
- HIS job contract
- HIS latest P60

You should only include both sets of financial documents if you need to combine your incomes to meet the £18,600 requirement. If his income meets the requirement on its own, you should leave your employment details blank and NOT include any financial documents from you at all... just pretend you don’t work.

Accommodation:
- Tenancy agreement if you rent
Or
- Land registry document if you own

Relationship
- Marriage certificate
- 1 photo of you together
- 6 documents showing co-habitation over the last 2 years

What dates are on your correspondence documents?

You only need 6 in each name (3 per year) but at the moment you have 10 in your name and 7 in his name. If you have 5 documents in joint names then you only need 1 more each, as long as the dates work.

They need to be evenly spaced over the last 2 years, one document for each 4-month period. So if you can list the date on every document, we can work out which ones you need to send.

Edited to take out mention of IHS surcharge.

Thanks for the reply.

So I need documents for the following time spans:

Dec 2017-Mar 2018 - Council Tax Demand Notice (Both names)
Aug 2017-Nov 2017 - Annual Mortgage Statement dated Dec 2017, covering period Dec 2016-Nov 2017 (Both Names)
Apr 2017-July 2017  - Bank statement for May/Jun 2017 (both names)
Dec 2016-Mar 2017 - Bank statement for Feb/Mar 2017 (both names)
Aug 2016-Nov 2016
Apr 2016-July 2016

We moved into our current property in Sep 2016, so I can probably find a rental agreement and a council tax bill with both of our names for our previous property (listed on the application) for the last two remaining time periods.

Would this suffice?

What are the exact dates on the documents?

They need to be spaced 4 months apart... so for example, if you’re using bank statements from May/June, then you can’t use the mortgage statement from Dec 2017... because that’s a gap of 6-7 months.

You also need to make sure you have 3 different official sources.

So you want documents from the following months:
Mar 2016
July 2016
Nov 2016
Mar 2017
July 2017
Nov 2017

Or perhaps from:
June 2016
Oct 2016
Feb 2017
June 2017
Oct 2017
Feb 2018

Or you could do:
April 2016
Aug 2016
Dec 2016
April 2017
Aug 2017
Dec 2017

Do you have to pay IHS for ILR? I thought we didn't have to for this one?
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Oops, sorry - that’s what happens when I reply quickly on my phone in the middle of a night shift.... I just listed everything I could think of and forgot you don’t need to pay IHS.

I’ll edit the post to take it out.

I just submitted my  SET(M) application - (I've been on the FLR(M) route for the last 5 years). I applied in the Financial Requirement category A for salaried employment. The only thing I noticed was different this time was in addition to the usual bank statements, payslips and letter of employment, we also needed to submit the most recent financial statement for my partner's company, since he is employed by a limited company. Further details are is explained on page 36 of appendix fm 1.7 financial requirement.

Even though we didn't need to, we submitted both of our incomes as evidence of meeting the financial requirement.  I'm employed by a university, so I didn't need to submit the financial statement.
Met partner: 23 November 2007
Began cohabiting (in UK): 17 September 2009
SET(M) application sent: 17 February 2018
Letter of acknowledgement received: 12 March 2018
Biometrics received: 14 March 2018
Biometrics sent: 15 March 2018
Indefinite Leave to Remain issued: 5 April 2018
Biometric Residence Permit received: 9 April 2018

Trying not to panic here, but I missed this part of the Appendix FM! My husband works for The XXX XXX Company (UK) Limited. Using Category B income from salaried employment.

Did we also have to provide the company’s annual return to prove his company wasn’t the limited type mentioned in 9(a) of FM-SE?
