Hello everyone,
My name is Allison and I'm 19 years old, and have been watching this site (and forum) for quite a bit before I decided I might as well give it a go. I'm from a suburb of New York City, am a Poli Sci/International Relations major, and a liberal Democrat. I've not lived in the UK permanently (as of yet, anyway), but in July 1999 I spent a month as a student ambassador in England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, and this past summer in July & August doing a summer program at Cambridge (Homerton more specifically), with about the first and last weeks of my stay in England spent in London. Both times I've fallen absolutely in love with the UK (though I'll admit I'm not too fond of the astonishing number of bees, the prices, and the lack of A/C, but oh well.) I'm coming back (for an as-of-yet undetermined period of time) next summer, and I actually hope to transfer to another University in England beginning fall 2005... I just hope I get in! ::fingers crossed:: I've no idea how I'm going to pay for it, but, well, we'll cross that bridge if and when we hopefully come to it. As a student ambassador in years past I've also traveled to Australia and New Zealand, and I've got to say of all the places I've been the UK has been my favorite (and that really does say something!) I'd
love to live there for a few years, actually (if lucky enough to get the chance,) and while the prospect of being so far from home, friends, and family does make me anxious, it would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity I just couldn't pass up. It also helps I've got an extended family (and many of them in the UK) the size of a small country and have some friends in the UK already.
I'll admit I feel a little silly joining even though I'm not currently living in the UK (and may never be! Woe to think of it!)... But I couldn't resist the temptation (not at this hour anyway.) I hope that's okay...
Well, I certainly think I've gone on about myself quite enough already!... Plus I really should be working on that paper for Middle Eastern History right now

... Lovely meeting you all!
