Hi guys my wife has just received her visa to move to England.
We are looking to bring her cat with her, and would like some advice on the best ways to book him onto a flight and who to book with

What steps have you taken already?

Will you be arranging all of kitty's paperwork and flights yourself or will you be using a pet shipping company?

We have had the neccessary vaccinations carried out and lined up a vet to finalise the pet passport.

We are strugggling with flights and finding which carrier to use.

We would rather book it all ourselves as it seems to be the more.cost effective option, yet we are at a loss with regards on how to contact the larger airlines about booking

Probably easiest to google the name of the airline you are considering along with "shipping pets", that should take you straight to the relevant portion of their website.

Virgin allows you to book directly without using a pet transportation service.  I think United might as well?  I believe you need to use a pet transportation service with BA.  As Larabee said, start googling.  :)
