Turbotax?

So I've finally gotten all my financial documents, and I was told to file a 1040EZ. When I went onto the IRS website, it recommended using Turbotax so I just wondered if anyone else on here had used it and recommended it to e-file. Or if I should use something else.

Also it's asking me for my husband's SSN, which he doesn't have since he's a UK citizen. Do I consider him a nonresident (of the US) alien then as he has never lived in the US?

If you're filing a joint return, you'll need a tax ID number for him (which I think takes some time to obtain...?).  If you're filing "married filing separately" because he has no US tax liability, then you would write NRA in the field where his SSN/TIN would go.

Thank you for that!

I'm filing separately as we hold no joint accounts or anything, and Turbotax just kept throwing up error signs for me and saying I couldn't e-file without a SSN for him.

I'm not sure if TurboTax will let you e-file with NRA in that field.  I can't e-file anyway, but as I recall, it did cause a problem.  I don't know if any of the online preparers allow it.

TaxAct allows you to file with NRA

It was free for me, and I was around $4k. I couldn't type in NRA into the field, but that could have been me so I just mailed stuff in anyway. Slightly less convenient.
