Be aware you will need to tailor the CV and cover letter to the position, show exactly how you meet every point in the posting.
Just want to pop in and emphasise how important addressing EVERY requirement on the job description/person specification is. Once I started very clearly doing that, I got invited for an interview for nearly every post I applied for (I hadn't been invited for any previously).
I don't have an example to send your way but I used one of the Word templates for my most recent CV, which has gone over well, and have just looked at examples online to structure my cover letters.
Also it doesn't seem to me that cover letters (in the traditional, one page pitch sense) are requested too often here. In my experience, employers are looking for a longer piece of writing where you describe how you meet the PS/JD.
