Alerting Home Office of Move
« on: May 25, 2018, 11:29:55 AM »
Hi All, long time no see :) I've been living here for nearly 3 years, almost time for my FLR visa  :o but I will stress about that later! I have moved once already since living here and we have just moved again. I have searched to forum quite a bit as I was sure I'd find it and can't find info on the form I need. I am sure I did it the last time but my brain is just not working! Help please!

I used this link to update my home address a couple of weeks ago. It was all online. Didn’t have to mail any completed forms.

Technically, the link to that page says that you fill out the online form if you have a visa application in progress but no decision has been made, while you fill out the paper form and mail it if you have a BRP card.

If you take a look at this page, it gives two separate links to different forms depending on your circumstances:
https://www.gov.uk/change-circumstances-visa-brp

If you click that you have a valid BRP, you are taken to the paper MCC form, while if you have an application in progress, you are taken to the online form.

However, I some people (including yourself) seem to have been okay using the online form and not the MCC form.

Well the online form said you can use it if you need to change your address and you're a migrant living in the UK?

Also, when you click on that "have a valid BRP" link and it takes you to the form MCC, the instructions say to use this form if you're on a visa under Tier 1, 2, 4 or 5? I don't think I'm on any tier visa right?

They may have changed the online form recently, which is why I said some people have been using it successfully lately.

Even though Form MCC says Tier visas, it is the correct one to use for a spousal visa too - for years, it was the only form there was, so you just had to add in ‘settlement visa’ manually... many people on the forum have used Form MCC to change their address (there are a lot of threads about it).

You're right, a spouse visa is not under the UK's Points Based System for a visa to work or study in the UK. Your spouse visa allows you to access all the UK job market, with no minimum or maximum hours you are permitted to work, or to study.

If UKVI have your recent address, they will be able to send any letters to the correct address instead of these going to an old address. You can update them onine, whereas some other foreign citizens are required to go to a police station and inform them each time they change address because that is a requirement of their visa.

Ok. Thanks for the clarification ksand24 and sirius!

I got an email confirmation from UKVI Change of Address Team today they’ve updated my address. So maybe the online form has been updated for spouse visas.

I suspect it’s perfectly valid to do it online and the site just isn’t worded correctly.  It is UKVI after aall!
