It's hugely discriminatory Jimbo, I totally agree.

As for why we need ally groups at work, it's because it allows people to be themselves, to know they're accepted, and to know they will be able to go for promotions without discrimination (LGBTQ+ are hugely under represented in leadership , but allies in general mean that companies can tackle all kinds of discrimination in leadership) , to be able to go to work without bullying, etc.  It shouldn't matter who we love at all within in work, but it does, unfortunately  :\\\'( :\\\'( :\\\'(

Not tami but I think that's discriminatory and also incredibly sad.  :\\\'(

Agreeing that I also think it's discriminatory and sad...but also angering too that they are having to deal with these added layers of crap.

or second cousin? My mom’s cousin’s kid

Second cousin.

his brother oh is a HUGE catholic (think him and wife are are on baby number 8?} flat out told him to NOT come around family functions because he didn’t want his kids subject to that. And the worst part Is that his parents didn’t defend him.

My mom know invites him to all her family functions (she’s always the host).

This is the sort of thing that makes me so sad.  I personally wouldn't want my kids subject to the brother and sister-in-law's attitude.  That's what I would shield my kids from.

I've got a cousin who's gay and he's active in the LGBT group at work.  I'm not sure what to think of that though.  Should there be groups formed based on sexual stuff at work?  Where I put Mr. Johnson doesn't seem like work topic.

Tami, What is your opinion on the controversy about the women only pools at Hampstead heath?  Some women don't want to allow trans people to swim there.  And don't want trans people in rape crisis centres, domestic violence shelters etc.
It seems discriminatory to me.  You have to accept everyone as they are.  What do you think?
I don't know what is going on at Hampstead Health but I can guess.

I was in Raleigh when North Carolina passed some of the most anti LGBT legislation ever seen, aka "bathroom bill".

I throw out the bull sh*t flag when people try to pass off their homophobia and transphobia as a concern that a paedophile will attempt to gain access to children in the bathroom by dressing up like a woman.

While I am a white cis gendered straight woman, my closest people, the people I love and cherish, identify as gay, lesbian, bi and as different genders than they were born. These are my people and it hurts me deeply to know that their lives are in danger because of who they are. I will fight for them. I will fight for others like them. It isn't fair, right or just that our government won't offer them simple rights such as that would be afforded to someone like me.

My children, my family and friends are afraid to be themselves in public. They have to hide who they are. They have to watch what they say, what they wear, who they are with and where they go.

And why? Ignorance, fear and intolerance.

I just want to point out that this thread went from gazpacho to gay in three pages.  I never remember what it's about when I see the topic title, but I click on it every time there's a new comment, to get caught up with the conversation.  This thread is one if those intangible reasons I love UKYankee.

And why? Ignorance, fear and intolerance.

If the bigots could let go of their fear, your children, your family, and our friends could live free of fear, too.  I am so sad for people who are not allowed to be their true self, out loud and without fear.  It's not fair, and there is no need for hate.  It serves no purpose in society.
