Proof of intent to marry
« on: July 27, 2018, 01:08:39 AM »
Hello again!
Trying to go through checklists on this and other websites to see what I need to submit!

How do I prove intent to marry? We sure don’t have the ring receipt and we’re not looking to do a ceremony, just a court kind of thing.

Do I have to register with someone and pay in advance (even if my being there depends on this visa?)

Thanks!

(If anyone could type out an official checklist for this visa I would be forever grateful).

The advice that was given to us if we weren't planning to have the full wedding was to still contact venues, cake makers, photographers, reception halls, etc... and get email/ paper  quotes so you can put it in your packet...Go to viewings and get proof that you did a cake tasting, that you spoke to a photographer...blah blah...Nothing says you have to hire them but get email evidence and pamphlets, any information you can on these places.
My fiance and I were pretty lucky in our planning for our wedding. We booked everything with all of booking being open in the possibly that the visa might get denied so they will adjust our dates as long as we keep them informed. They were very understanding with our situation and willing to work with us.
You can't register to get married until you get your visa and you are back in the UK for 7 days.

 I hope this helps...

You should NOT book or pay for anything that is time or visa dependant that's just one of the reasons that a fiancee visa is such a logistical nightmare!

It would be much easier, cheaper and less stressful for you to have the wedding in the US and apply directly for the spouse visa. Many of our members have done just that and been glad they have.

If you do have very strong reasons for choosing to marry in the UK instead of the US and definitely want to go with the fiancee visa, you could use email trails with the registry office, venue etc, for your evidence.

That’s all a bit overkill.

All you need is a printed email chain between you and the church or registry office enquiring about possible dates.

If you want, you can include pictures of the dress/rings, or an invitation card, or anything else you’ve bought/provisionally booked, but it’s not necessary.

I provided only a print out of the email chain between myself and the Newcastle Registry Office. I made a point of asking if it would be better for us to wait to book the appointment to give Notice of Intent to Marry until after arriving in the UK, given we were unsure how long the visa application would take.

I also provided a brief paragraph in the application (in the "is there anything else you would like us to consider" box, explaining that we were planning a simple civil marriage at the registry office as we A) Didn't want a big fuss given we'd both been married previously in the past B) Are not religious and C) Neither of us have living parents or other family in the UK.

Type: Fiancee Visa
Online application submitted: 26/11/2017
Appendix and evidence/docs etc sent to Sheffield 4/12/2017
Biometrics Appointment: 13/04/2018
Application Received email from Sheffield: 18/04/2018
Decision Made email: Never received
Passport/Visa Returned: 21/07/2018
Approved!

So I should just email a venue and ask about booking and say something along the lines of

“Me and my fiancée are looking to marry at your venue later in the year. Would it be better to wait until after I have arrived back in the UK with my fiancée so that we can give notice of intent to marry before booking the venue (as I am waiting on the application of my visa to come to the UK)? Please let me know”

Something like that?

The reason we are doing a fiancée visa is because right now we are separated country wise and I don’t think my fiancée would be able to come in to marry, do to work and the fact that he came to the Us many times last year and stayed for 80 days when our son was born. They barley let him him in then.

Just send an email to your local registry office and inquire about the process for giving notice and if they currently have ability in xxxx month.  That's really all you need.  :)

I'd probably be more specific than that. You must show you are planning to marry within 6 months of the visa being granted, so you need to provide evidence of making plans for a wedding within that timeframe.

Which means, you'll need to think of an ideal date on which you want to marry and then ask what their availability is around that date.

For example:
My fiance and I would like to marry at your registry office/church/venue later this year. Please can you tell me what availability you have in late November or early December 2018 and what the process for giving notice is?
