Last post from me for awhile I swear 😉,
Originally for our housing situation we were going to stay at my fiancées mums house but the council just said they are unable to write us a letter granting me permission to stay.

So on to the next option. Does my fiancée actually have to sign a lease for a new place and get that landlord to write the letter even though I may not be in the country for months?

Could he sign a later lease (date wise) at risk of me getting accepted before then? Like sign a lease for November even though it’s July right now.

Or can we just get a letter from the landlord stating that if we chose to rent there then they would give permission for me to stay there?

I’m not sure my partner could function living alone haha. I hope he doesn’t have to move out ASAP.

For the visa, you need a valid, signed tenancy agreement, PLUS a letter from the landlord saying you have permission to live there with your fiance/partner after your visa has been granted (however long that takes).

Did the council explain why they are unable to provide a letter giving permission to stay? I'm wondering if it's due to an issue with number of people in the property, or for legal reasons, or if they're just being difficult about it.

Another option might be to find someone else you can both live with instead - another family member, or a friend, perhaps?

I would call the council again.  Or have your fiancé go there in person (with his mom would be best).  If the property isn’t overcrowded, they really should be able to write a letter.
