WE GOT IT!! With no fuss at all! My partner was there in case they wanted to interview us, but they didn't even ask any questions. We just had to kick around Croydon for nearly 4 hours while they processed it, then collected our documents back. Yay! Indefinite Leave to Remain!!!!!!!!!

A bit late, but CONGRATS!!!!  :D

All the ones that they are issuing at the moment have that same expiration date.  :)

This thread explains it.

Awesome :).

No, you don’t have to do it again (unless you leave the U.K. for more than 2 years), but you do need to renew the BRP card every few years. I thought it was every 10 years, but yours is only valid for just over 6 years. It’s like with UK driving licences where the licence stays valid but you have to renew it to update the photo every 10 years.

Many people don’t actually get to the stage where they have to renew it because they usually apply for U.K. citizenship long before it expires, and the BRP is destroyed when you are granted citizenship.

What are the advantages to applying for citizenship? I thought I would just live here forever, but keep my US citizenship. And if you go on to apply for UK citizenship, do you have to give up your US citizenship?

You do not have to give up US citizenship to get UK citizenship; you can have both.

The biggest advantage of UK citizenship is (somewhat sadly), always having the ability to live in the UK.  ILR is only valid so long as you remain in the UK.  If you're away from the UK for 2 years, ILR is lost and if you wanted to move back, you would need to qualify for a visa and start from the very beginning again.  As you never know what will happen in the future (and IMO, especially if you have elderly parents back in the US who may need your support later in life), it's probably a good idea to get UK citizenship so you know you'll always be able to return to the UK regardless of how much time you spend outside.

There's being able to vote - which I wish was the bigger attraction rather than not potentially losing ILR.  And at least still right now, you can benefit from the UK's remaining time being a member of the EU.
