Applying for NI number
« on: September 17, 2018, 07:17:32 PM »
They ask when you apply for the National insurance number what type of visa you have. Options such as spouse/partner visa and residence permit card. I looked at my BRP and it says residence permit and doesn’t say anything about a spouse. Is that what I put? Or do I chose spouse visa

I called for my NIN and was on hold for 30 min  ::)

Still don't have it or any sort of application yet. Did you have issues like that?

I had started an online application and that is where I saw that. Just decided to call tomorrow instead. I don’t trust websites and the gov.uk website doesn’t say anything about applying online. It only gives the phone numbers.

Yes, you must have not been in the right place, you have to call.  :)

If they give you a hard time about sending you an application, just tell them you have a job or a job offer. They’ll try to talk you out of needing one but just be persistent. A lot of applications I’ve had ask for it.

Or long does it take to actually get the number once you have called?

I had to go for a identity interview here. Basically they check your id and fill out the application for you at a job centre. It took me almost the full four weeks to get mine.

Mine took about 6 weeks from the call to get. About 10 days from call to the first available interview at the job centre and then another 4-5 weeks to receive it in the mail
