Hello!
I'm an American citizen with a UK boyfriend. We are discussing our options for marriage and have been hearing it's easier to marry in the US, then I'll stay and apply for my Spouse Visa while he goes back to the UK.
However, I'm not finding a lot of information about what exactly is needed for the US marriage license. Since he doesn't have a social security number, what does he need to provide? And it's ok for him to get married while visiting on his passport/ESTA, correct? (We're looking at getting married in KS)
TIA!
Hello and welcome:)
My husband is British, and we got married in Louisiana in June.
Each state is different, so I would suggest calling your local Clerk of Court and getting all of the info you need. Yes, he can come here to marry you on an ESTA as long as he has no intention of remaining in the US after you are married.
In Louisiana, where I got married, all we needed was our original certified birth certificates. Since my husband had no SS#, he signed an affidavit to that effect. But please, call your local Clerk of Court to make sure, as your state's rules may very well differ from mine. You might need additional documentation.
Best of luck!
