So about this BRP Card... I'm still waiting for the home office to mail it to me!! They said it would take 10 business days to post. It has been 17 business days!! UGH! I have contacted them like three times to make sure they are going to still send it. They said they are backed up with returned BRP cards.

My question is though... Can I register for a National Insurance Number without my BRP card or do I need it? would I just need my GWF or other number to set it up?

I have a potential job in process but and I really hope this is not going to push me back to starting a job!! My guess is the company needs my BRP card? or just as long as I have a NIN I should be okay?

Do you know if there"s anyone I can talk to that can rush this when it becomes an issue? (meaning aka if I get the job offer) AHH this is so frustrating!!!

You absolutely have to have your BRP card to get your NINo as it proves you are allowed to work in the UK. The number is entered onto the application form.

And you don't HAVE to have your NINo when you get your first job, but you will be taxed on the emergency tax code until you do, which is a LOT of money they take out of your paycheck. There are some employers who won't consider people without their NINo as well, and some applications require a NINo if done online.

You'll also need your husbands NINo when you go in and apply for yours, just as an FYI. I was lucky my husband was with me when I applied or else I wouldn't have been able to. And that's not something they tell you ahead of time.  ::)
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Oh dear, sorry for your hassle! As I’m about to apply for ILR, this is not good news but it’s good to know.

Really hope the job works out for you!
