Old Town hands down is my favorite...G-Town is a bit less quaint and a bit more city like...plus there's way more drunkeness and college feel.  I think Old Town has a nice feel to it, more "natives" hang out there and less potential of college kids taking over.  But that's my own point of view...

(for yeo...nothing wrong with all college students!  :))

There really is a difference they both have thier plus and minus. since living here in the DC area what do you like/dislike about being in london in comparison, and what about the uk period compared to the US

I always felt that DC was definitely one of the more conservative towns but also very international...which was an interesting thing.  Things were spread out though the transportation system wasn't so bad.  Traffic was AWFUL.  I liked a few of the more interesting neighborhoods.  It had a more historical feel than many of the other towns - though Boston did compare there.

London - much easier to get around, though traffic is a bear here too.  I don't feel as much of a need for a car here (it'd just be nice).  London is a very cosmopolitan city - you can find anything and everything (everybody) here.  I actually love it much more than any other city in the States where I've lived....then again it's only been a few months.  But I'm utterly happy here.  I think the social aspect is better here, I've actually connected more with people outside my job than I did in DC.

As many people have said...London is not England...so I can't say that I can compare the UK to the US based on my meager experience.  But I have felt so connected to this place.  I had only one bad moment here and it had more to do with not having friends and a roommate situation - this has all changed so I'm much happier.  My family has already noted that I project much more contentment than at any other time in my life.  So this place and this job have been good for me!

I used to live at Andrews AFB for 7 years. I would drive through Old Town each night after working at Dulles Airport to drop my friend/co-worker off whom lived near DuPont circle. Old Town is great as long as you dont get stuck in traffic while the Georgetown crowd is on the town. DC is beautiful at night. Nice, clean and peaceful looking and you hardly notice people sleeping on the park benches! :)

Well it nice hearing nice things about my town I love DC. From what I under stand A lot of people have compared london to new york would you say that is accurate, and why do people say london is not really england. I find it surprising that you find it easier to make connection outside of work, just from what I've heard is that english people are very private people is that tough barrier to come across.

In terms of being cosmopolitan, I would say NYC and London are very similar.  IMO, getting around London by public tranport is much easier than in NYC,  and both cities have their share of transport nightmares.

One cannot say London is England, just as one cannot say NYC is the US.  Both cities are fast paced, etc, while going to other areas you will feel as if everything is moving slower, and in comes cases it is.

Living in a village is very different than living in London.

I haven't had a problem getting to know Brits at all....but that's probably because I do live in London where there are lots of people who are non-natives and I'm involved with the same things that they are.  And I actually have lunch every day with the Brits at work as opposed to just the Americans...it's all a matter of making an effort!
