Hi guys.....I had started a thread earlier on this topic, but I cant find it.
Basically, my husband had to leave his job 8 months ago because they were making his life hell and he was super ill from it. His new job is only part time and falls about 3200 short. He has been trying to find another part time job or a different full time job, but no luck. He has also started his own business, which we think will bring in about 4-5k a year. (Although with only a little over a year to go till ILR, i am worried we might not have enough evidence to use this.)
I am an archaeologist, and as is more common than not in my field, I work on short term rolling contracts. In my previous thread about this, someone said it doesnt matter what kind of contract - as long as I can prove the income for previous 6-12 months. However, I have seen on other people's threads that we must show that I will have future income as well. Even if my boss writes a letter saying that they intend to keep me on, the contract will still likely be extended on a monthly basis. I am worried that this will not be enough.
I also have held a casual receptionist job since I moved here that I do on weekends. Originally, this job was meant to support myself during winter months whenever archaeology work can dry up. But will that work better at all? Its still a 0-hour position that I usually have no trouble getting at least 500/month if I need to.
I have applied to dozens of other jobs but am not even getting interviewed even though I am perfect for them. I've just applied to one more, which I will hear about in an interview in 2 weeks or so. Its a part-time job making 3x our shortfall on an 18 month contract - likely starting in January. This would give me work till about 6 months after ILR, and I would supplement this with my casual job. But is this a viable option either? It would be ideal as it is within the realm of my career and would also give me time to pursue some other qualifications that will help me in the future. I think I have one last option....my husbands friend might be able to get me a job in a bank. Meaning I will yet again be giving up my career.Half the reason of moving here instead of my husband moving to the States was so I could work in archaeology. (The other half was so that he could take his dream job, the one that turned into a nightmare.) And at this point, if I have to do it again - I doubt I will be able to get back into it and am afraid of trying to find a different non-soul crushing job later as I have had so many jobs (its just the nature of archaeology that you bounce around) that its starting to look suspicious as if I can't hold one. So I would basically be stuck there for years.....which will essentially ensure that I am on antidepressants for probably the rest of my life as I already ran away from one bank job.
Anyone's advice would be greatly appreciated - and sorry again that I couldn't find my original thread to go off of.
