Supporting document nightmare
« on: November 15, 2018, 07:16:25 PM »
Hello again everyone!

So my wife went to to her biometrics appointment yesterday! Yay!

She was given a letter on UKVI stationary telling us that our supporting documents must be photocopies on US size paper and sent to the NY scan hub...

She currently has a packet containing all of our supporting documents ALL ORIGINALS.

what happens if I send all of my original documents to the NY scan hub? Surely my wife's passport would be in there? I'm not sure what they intend to do with it.?

I read somewhere else that settlement applications still need to be sent all original documents direct to Sheffield?!?

I purchased the courier service from VFS and the shipping labels are addressed to NY.

I even rang the UKVI enquiries line (I know, I know!) and the girl told me that they still need original documents or certified copies. She had no knowledge of the instruction sheet given to my wife at the biometrics appointment.

I really don't know where to send these documents and in what format... We now have 5 days to decipher the puzzle and get them.sent.

I would like to upload a photo of the letter given to my wife at her biometrics appointment but I can't work out how to do that.

I really hope someone can advise me on what is best to do sharpish. :(

Thank you as always,

Alex

We've seen the letter, a couple of people have posted it recently. I'd send the originals and the copies, that way you are covering yourself in either eventuality.  The package should be sent to New York.

Good evening!

Thank you for your swift response! It's hugely appreciated! :)

Have I understood correctly that its advised that I have to get her to photocopy everything again?

That's going to be an absolute nightmare as there's tons of it :(

Thank you,

Alex

Send the originals and one set of copies. They are asking for copies because they need to scan your evidence to Sheffield and this makes the process easier.

Hello again :)

Thanks again for getting back to me so quickly!

My bank statements are just printouts from the bank that are accompanied by a letter of authenticity. Does this mean that ill need to copy all of these too? Also my Facebook chat logs are just printouts too!

What a nightmare :(

Thanks again and look forward to hearing back!

I recognise what you're saying but I think it would be easier for the scanning centre to understand if you just sent two complete piles of information. It would be less likely for them to miss something out.

That's fair enough! I will scan the lot!

Just to clarify... Are we including her passport when we send the document pack to the NY scan hub?

You MUST send her passport. If your package arrives without her passport, the visa will be automatically refused.

From the Apply for a U.K. visa in the USA page:

3. Mail your application
Your biometric confirmation receipt will be stamped at your appointment. You then have 5 days to mail this, your application form, your passport and supporting documents to VFS Services USA Inc. All applications must be accompanied by a valid passport with at least one page blank on both sides. If the application is mailed without a passport the application will be refused.

Whoa! That's loud and clear!

The reason it’s so clear is because the visa will be issued as a 30-day vignette sticker in her passport, but if you don’t include her passport, they can’t put her visa in it... therefore they can’t issue the visa at all.

Hello again everyone!

So we mailed the document pack off to New York last week.

Has anyone got any idea how long it takes for them to receive the document pack?

We used the shipping available from VFS. Do they let you know when the scan hub receives the pack or do we only know once Sheffield has them?

The nerves are kicking in already. It's a heck of a lot of money to be resting on a British Government department....

Any help and encouraging words are massively appreciated!

Thank you,

Alex

It should be within 2 days - I would check your tracking number on the UPS website because it should have been signed for in New York a few days ago.

You should then get an email from Sheffield in a couple of weeks saying they have received your scanned documents.

Hello!

Thank you so much!

I had a thought just now...

I KNOW that everything we needed in the visa packet was there and correct. I personally went through it 6 times to make sure before we sent it all off to New York.

I now have to trust the employees at the scan hub to make sure that they scan everything correctly and get it all to Sheffield

What if they miss a crucial page or something? Like a page of the bank statements?

I would literally scream if they refused the visa due to an error here. How could you possibly prove that it was their error and not yours...

I'm so nervous. I miss my wife so much and honestly just want this all to be over.

Any opinions or facts are so welcome!

Alex

Since the switch someone has been contacted by Sheffield due to missing bank statement pages, etc.  So if something is missing they will contact you and have you send it direct to them.  Try not to worry.  :)

It *does* happen, but it's highly unlikely UKVI will refuse the visa outright while they get the kinks worked out.
