Spouse Visa-where to begin
« on: November 23, 2018, 07:34:06 PM »
Hi everyone...I’ve been reading and reading through as many posts as possible. Can anyone link me to a post that can explain where to begin in this journey of getting my spouse visa?

My husband has a job secured in Hursley, and we will be moving our family towards the spring/early summer as the kids finish school here in the states. I want to begin the process, but honestly don’t know where to start.

I know we need to decide which route we will take in order for me to qualify. One was that we can do is with our savings or with my husband’s job. Which is faster/easier?

I sincerely apologize...I’ve been trying to figure it out without posting, but couldn’t narrow down which post to follow.

Thank you! Xx

The savings route is definitely easiest.

Here is some essential reading.

Thank you Larrabee!

One other question...do we need to have an address in the UK to apply? I saw this somewhere, but wanted to check and see if this is the case. How many months do we need to plan for this to take?

Again, thank you so much! You’ve been a wealth of help and I SO appreciate it.

Part of the application involves proving you have a place to live when you arrive. They call it the accommodation requirement.
Most people stay with friends or family to begin with.

We are a family of six...do they have to have a home large enough to accommodate us? Is it a problem that they live in the north and we will be in Winchester??

What were you actually planning to do about somewhere to live?

The accommodation you submit should be the one you intend to stay at even if just for a short while after you arrive. The overcrowding standard is explained here.

We were planning to secure a rent house or use an air bnb temporarily until we landed a home.

How long should we anticipate the spousal visa to take? Everyone (husband and 4 kids all have uk passports) so it’s only my visa that we have to worry about.

I ask this (about how long it takes) as maybe we could secure a rental before submitting my visa application.

Is the company providing corporate housing or a house hunting trip prior to moving?  That's very standard in an international transfer.

I’d allow 1.5 to 3 months for processing, depending on whether you pay for priority processing or not.

If you’re applying in the summer months though, I would allow 2-3 months for priority and anywhere from about 3-6 months for non-priority processing.

We aren’t certain the specifics of the transfer yet as this was a request by my husband to transfer. So, we aren’t sure exactly what they will pay for in the move (ie moving costs, house hunting trip or corporate housing). Hopefully we will learn that sooner than later, but we aren’t expecting many perks as this was instigated by us...

We’d like to be moving by the beginning of June at the latest. Based on that general time frame, when would be best for me to apply. Are there advantages to priority processing? If we apply in the spring what time frame are we looking at for priority and non priority?

Thank you soooo much!

You can apply up to six months before your move date, so no reason to not apply as soon as possible, with June as your move date.

Does this service apply to spouse visas? We happen to live where this service is offered. Pros/cons?

That does not apply to settlement applications. There is no decision in a day for those unfortunately.
