It’s low fat beef that’s had the bacteria killed off safely with ammonia gas, none of which remains in the beef. And it’s slime cause it’s been spun around in a centrifuge prior to being treated. Nothing about the slime has any chemicals at all involved. And it’s still widely included in ground beef in the EU too. They only ban the ammonia process. Not centrifuged trimmings and not treatment with artificial citric acid.

Yes, scientifically sound safe processes that stretch out beef with more beef and therefore lower the price of beef to be more accessible to the poor is a good thing. If you want your fresh ground high fat mince from the butcher for double the price (and it is good) then you should be free to pay a premium for that. You shouldn’t be saying no one is allowed to eat beef unless it’s the premium stuff you prefer.

Chlorinated chicken... drinking bleach is bad, but killing off bacteria with a quick shot of chlorine that’s then completely cleaned off is good. Oh but it’s scary when you say it to ignorant people isn’t it? They should be a lot more scared of the disgusting stuff left in their chicken by not treating it.

For the life of me, I don’t understand why people think disgusting unclean bad bacteria laden food is somehow better for them. Or that environment destroying less efficient more expensive food is better. If people want to believe that scientifically disproven crap cause they think it tastes better or whatever nonsense, then more power to them. I’m all for the market supplying whatever people demand. But that is no reason to ban completely safe, in fact safer, food that’s healthy and affordable.

So we are supposed to believe that the Council of Europe is made up of people who are liars like me, who prey on the ignorant?  Everyone in the EU is an idiot who doesn't have a degree like you?

What I do know from a cursory glance at the research is that it is not cut and dried either way, and your simplistic arguments are just that.  There's two sides to this argument, and for you to call everything you disagree with "scientifically disproven crap" means you probably don't understand the real science any more than I do.

Most people are uninformed about most things in their life. A lot fall victim to silly hyped up things that someone tells them are healthier when science says otherwise.

I think that’s sad, but people are entitled to make bad choices and to choose to pay a premium for snake oil if they want to. That should not give them the right to say no one else should be allowed to buy anything but the same snake oil - which is conveniently made where the people making the rules come from.

There are no serious food safety scientists or food focused development economist or microbiologists in the world saying free range or organic or unpasteurized or unwashed or untreated or vitamin supplements or homeopathy are actually good. Quite the opposite. They’ll tell you about diseases and pathogens and environmental damage done by those overhyped and under researched practices.

And again, that’s okay if people want to be taken in by that stuff. It’s just not okay to mandate it on others. Again, the entire rest of the world is going off actual science. The EU is going off a system that protects small inefficient farmers and big European companies from external competition. I get that like climate change deniers, you guys aren’t going to be convinced by science, cause you’ve decided what you culturally want to believe. That’s fine. You can have all those things. You could have them in America too unless they’re manifestly unsafe. But it’s wrong to make poor people pay more for quality healthy safe food & reduce their economic opportunities because you’ve decided to defy science, believe in European superiority, and mandate that everyone else accept the same thing as an absolute... in the face of significant evidence to the contrary.

Unwashed? Homeopathy?  Where did those straw men come from?  We were talking about chlorine washed chicken, and in your "say it with authority and everyone will believe it's obviously true " kind of way you said that distrust of chlorine washes was unscientific nonsense.  There's plenty of opinion and research otherwise, which I can quote and which is the reason it's not allowed in the EU.  I didn't say nothing about homeopathy.
 Nice try though.

Come on over to the "Trump's going to jail" thread.  I'm really interested in your take since what you originally called a nothing burger just got another whole beef patty

There is plenty of unscientific opinion. No doubt of that. But food safety scientist and regulators all over the globe are of one opinion. And it’s not the one the EU conveniently sets as their standard. Cause every time they do something different it means the massive worldwide supply of whatever that product is cannot be imported to the EU or has to be done in a different customized and therefore more expensive way to comply with EU regulations, and all of that means internal producers are protected from external competition that would drive down prices and force things to operate more efficiently.

That’s the entire point. The EU is about barriers and Brexit economically is primarily about global free trade without barriers - NOT frictionless trade with only Europe. Europe is not enough.

Why are you obsessed with Trump? And why do you think I should be?

I don’t care about him. I’ve never cared about him. I voted for Cruz in the primary and Johnson in the general.

For your information though, he most definitely is not going to jail. It’s all politics & the wet dream of people who don’t understand how this works at all.

"...how this works..."?!  "This" is unprecedented levels of incompetence at the least, but more likely massive corruption.  Nobody was prepared for this administration, and nobody understands how "this" works, because we're at a place we've never been before.  How does it work when the President has no understanding of the Constitution he swore an oath to uphold and defend?

On a personal level, I am curious.  Why do you always speak in absolutes about things that are untested and unknown?  When you say Trump "most definitely is not going to jail,"  do you really  believe that, or do you just speak this way so the rest of us will assume you must know more than we do?  And if it's the latter, what do you hope to gain?  We're not the jury.  Convincing us won't change what happens in the actual legal proceedings.

Bingo!
So wait a minute Mr Texas, are you telling me that your absolute opinion about chlorinated chicken is based on the same amount of evidence as your absolute opinion that Trump will never go to jail?  I don't know squat about chicken, but I do know about the Trump saga and anyone who says ABSOLUTELY that one thing or another is going to happen is talking out of their butt.  I had a bit of hope that I'd find out something I didn't know about chicken when you said you had a related degree, but I'm afraid my initial assumption about people who speak in absolutes was correct.

And I'm not obsessed with Trump, just extending a friendly invite to come on over and participate.  If you don't like Trump you can say so over there, that's fine too.

I don't really keep track of all those minor lick Spittal Republicans, but is Cruz the one who's family and wife were insulted by Trump in a horrible, personal attack?  Then just a bit later he was unashamedly kissing Trump's butt for an endorsement? Surely it can't be that guy?

I know that description might cover more than one Republican these days.

Well he supports religious exemptions for childhood vaccinations. And he thinks climate change is a plot.
