Supporting documents for applying for children's British passports, help!

Hi all,
We are in the process of applying for our children's British passports from here in the US.
I'm confused about what I should be sending,
My British hubby was born in 1977, so we don't need to send grandparent info.

but I have read that I need to send our old passports at the time of of children's conception??
And also, do I send my children's actual US passports or will color copies do?

Any help would be much appreciated!
